Whereas I appreciate the sentiment around engaging / playing with the children on their own terms, there does need to be some boundaries set, not least because we are seeing a large increase in health conditions associated with sedentary screen-based time.
Arguable the most under reported of these is the huge increase in myopia (short sightedness) in children resulting from countless hours doing near work. In urban China/Singapore a shocking 90% of eighteen year olds wear glassses. In the West it is circa 30% and rising – we need to think of creative ways of engaging with our kids that involve time away from screens.
