Journey into the floating Guava market of Bangladesh

Climbing a guava tree, I hunted down the most crunchy piece the tree had on offer. Digging my nails deep into the guava for determining optimum crunchiness, I delicately balanced myself on the thin branches. As cheesy as it sounds, it feels like somewhere in between the jerk of me pulling the guava from its roots and eating it- I grew up! Eating a fresh guava and watching elders play cricket from tree branches is one of my most vivid memories from childhood. Our home in Gazipur was scattered with guava trees and I was a very frequent guava cruncher!

After almost 10 years, a little wiser, a little chubbier, I plucked a guava off a tree in the floating guava garden in Barisal. However, this time I was surrounded by a sea of guavas! So much so that I could literally open my mouth and pluck it with my bare teeth as the boat swayed through the garden. Our primary goal was to take some videos for a project we are working on (more on that soon), but here are some photos to devour on. I hope at the very least, it inspires you to grab a bite of a crunchy guava…

A friendly local who had some great life advice for us
