On Apple’s Upcoming Wearable Computer

A wearable computer done right will achieve mass market appeal, and will completely disrupt the current generation of wearable technology. In 2007 we saw Apple do this to the smartphone industry, and I believe they will do it again this year.

Smartphones before the iPhone, not even close.

How will they do it? I believe Apple’s new product will be a general purpose computer, which will initially be marketed with a focus on specific primary functions, much like the iPhone was introduced as an iPod, a phone, and an Internet communication device.

My bet then, is on Apple’s new product being a timekeeper (watch, alarms), a sensor hub (for health and fitness), and a messaging hub, which will bring the full power of iOS8 notifications (including widgets and interactive notifications) to your wrist.

Does Apple have it in them to release a wildly disruptive product without Steve Jobs? Stay tuned and we'll see if Apple gives us a “one more thing” when they announce the new iPhones this September.
