Journey: LA — San Francisco

The drive from Los Angeles to San Francisco along the Route 1 coastal line can take around 10–12 hours. The exact timing will depend on the traffic and the stops you make along the way. So remember to leave extra time to enjoy the drive worry free.

Once you start cruising from Los Angeles, you will pass iconic coastal cities such as Malibu and Santa Barbara before you hit the world famous Big Sur. If you grew up with a desktop computer, then without a doubt you have come across the Bixby Creek Bridge floating around your screen.

During our Journey from LA to San Francisco, we decided to stop and explore Monterey. As soon as we entered this charming town by the sea we were in awe of the picturesque beauty of this small town. You can easily spend a few hours to relax and unwind from the long travels. Highlight of our time in Monterey was a nice glass of Cabernet Sauvignon paired with mouth watering Tapas at The Taste of Monterey — Wine Market and Bistro while gazing into the Pacific Ocean.

The stretch from Monterey to San Francisco could take around 2.5 to 3 hours. During this drive you will continue to pass through more beautiful and scenic coastal cities such as Santa Crus and Half Moon bay. While we decided to continue straight to San Francisco you can stop by and grab a cup of coffee before you continue on the drive. Before you begin your journey from LA to San Francisco, make sure to plan it in a such a way you have a full tank of gas and note down how many miles you can drive before reaching the next gas station as there are only a few along the way and you may end up having to detour from the Pacific Highway to get the necessities.
