Aligning Yourself With the World

The mental models approach is very appealing.

It’s the best way I know of to full Joseph Tussman’s advice: “What the pupil must learn, if he learns anything at all, is that the world will do most of the work for you, provided you cooperate with it by identifying how it really works and aligning with those realities. If we do not let the world teach us, it teaches us a lesson.”

The idea is to take the world’s greatest, most useful, and time tested ideas and make them work for you!

Is there a better way to align yourself to how the world really works?

Nearly all of the models themselves are perfectly well understandable by the average person.

Ideas like Bayes’ rule, multiplicative thinking, hindsight bias, or the bias from envy and jealousy, are all obviously true and part of the reality we live in.

I’m so excited about mental models that I commissioned a brief video explaining them:

If you want to start learning this approach today, I’ve compiled a wonderful Latticework of Mental Models where you can dive in.
