It’s time to write more.
My writings
I’m looking out beyond my balcony and I see a whale approximately 1600 meters from me. That would be 800 meters from the shore, which is 800 meters from the house I’m staying in. Ok, I don’t actually see a whale, I’m envisioning a whale out there. Whale or not, my view is still spectacular. I’m about 100 meters above sea level, on a mountain ridge and I live in a castle- 3 balconies, sleeps 16, 2 extravagant living rooms- and I paid pennies for it. I’m here with 3 friends who are in a same place as I.
I’ve been down here just under two weeks now, and I don’t regret being here. I don’t regret uncomfortably asking for two weeks of remote work in the Dominican Republic. It’s disrupted a lot of people back at my company. I knew it would be disruptive, I didn’t know how to manage their expectations. I just did it. I’m glad I’m here, and yet unsettled. I don’t want to feel unsettled, I want to be accepted and appreciated and valued. In a werid way, I know I’m feeling uncomfortable right now, so I know that I’m ok. It’s just a feeling and a thought- one that can be corrected with action and smart thinking. Work Smarter, not harder.
So, let’s focus on what drives outcomes. Pretty soon, I need to:
- Write down my strengths- Concentrate on my brand, Chris, Inc, and document it.
- Create the start of the Social Coach platform
- It would be cool to have our next keynote or assembly at a theater.
That’s it. All I want to do before I leave the DR (2/12 — accomplished btw, except for writing down my strengths). I owe it to myself. In 2014, I would like to concentrate on:
- Building passive income.
- traveling more. writing more. Federal Holidays this year are:
- Wednesday, January 1 New Year’s Day
- Monday, January 20Birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr.- DOMINICAN REPUBLIC
- Monday, February 17 *Washington’s Birthday — AUSTIN, TX
- Monday, May 26 Memorial Day — 7 DAYS — VALENCIA, BARCELONA, MADRID
- Friday, July 4 Independence Day —
- Monday, September 1Labor Day
- Monday, October 13Columbus Day
- Tuesday, November 11Veterans Day
- Thursday, November 27 Thanksgiving Day
- Thursday, December 25Christmas Day
It’s about performance. Which is different from presentation skills. A great performance yields better margins and results
- alexander technique, relaxed power, creative visualization. this stretches beyond just the stage, it will transform your life.
- It’s not about being a TED talk, it’s about being a talk that gets invited to great events, among them TED.
- it’s about getting buy-in, literally.
- it’s about giving less of a shit.

Story 1 — inspired by retro poster of woman sitting on jungle ridge viewing plane traveling in.

Scene opens with nostalgic man looking at poster. he is daydreaming. his eyes are wide with thoughts of possibility. his jaw slightly dropped. he is tired of his job. unfulfilled. team pipes in — chris, are you with us? the team asks for chris’ input on a purely inane subject. Chris gives the simple answer to the simple task. It’s just one of the many little ok thoughts he provides. The team leaves. The exec invites chris into the office. Chris, completely humble, listens as the nice executive tries to udnerstand why chris is lost. Chris can’t explain… the poster sits in periphery… we feel the call to action coming…
We are invited into the scene, and the plane is traveling…
Scene opens with Jon Hamm character finishing the presentation, a la mad men style, with a final reveal. It’s a picture of the customer’s platform/idea, but it’s in that retro style. Plus it has nothing to do with the data, just the “tagline” or the brand.
“Look, you guys know I love you, but… I don’t get it. Where’s the data?”
“It says it right here in the picture”
“ Well yeah but I don’t get that you fully understand my company or what we stand for… I just see a marketing pitch. Where’s the data?”
