Looking at them seems to drift us off to an eerily reminiscence of Jacob Diamond, or perhaps, an exhibition of decorative arts immersed in the traditions of the past. In Gazdar, there is an intertwining possibility of two forking designs, something of a representation, something which has a valuable meaning. They are the touchstone of all elegant things, soaking up clear lines, geometric shapes and lavish decorations that throw an insight into an authentic Indian tradition teamed with extraordinary gemstones and floral aesthetics. A vivid reflection of what decades in a line of crafting a fluid elegance can do for a legacy.

Established in 1933, Gazdar Jewellers has always been associated with jewellery finely imbibed in quality gemstones and natural pearls. It glitters and shimmers, and beneath that timeless ruby and diamond necklace, it maintains the heritage structure and tradition of creating for the royalty. Washed ashore in the Art Deco wave, Gazdar’s line of jewellery is defined by the nobility, luxury, and perfection. And that’s what prompted the patronage of the Nizam as well as other royal families from the princely states of Travancore, Baroda, and Patiala, and also became a destination of choice for Hollywood stars, diplomats and dignitaries. Just ask Christie’s jewelry specialists, who bring to the market an exceptional collection of Art Nouveau and Art Deco jewels, about the designs with which Gazdar is bestriding the jewellery style and responding steadily to the liberating atmosphere of Art Deco forms.

Celebrating the triumph of modernist principles and sleek designs, Gazdar’s stress on extraordinary qualities of gemstones responded to a widespread acclaim. The brand’s 1965 exceptional ruby and diamond necklace and a 2014 shiny brooch with a 40-carat sapphire enhanced by the diamonds are some of its exquisite pieces
that were highly revered at the Christie’s in Geneva.

There was also an inspiration in the rising Art Nouveau forms that sent along the new perspective and innovative designs, escaping the usual route of historical styles. Here, in this revival form of the style, Gazdar tried to assimilate organic and asymmetrical forms uniting the illustrative concepts of the era including leaf vines orchids and tendril motifs. We can only say that in search of gems, we found Gazdar. “Sparring a legacy close to a century, our endeavour has always been to create jewellery with the rarest and most extraordinary gemstones,” Shreyans Gandhi, third-generation jeweller of the Gandhi family, which now owns the timeless, classic brand.

1. If you had to sum up your brand’s aesthetics using only five words what would it be?

The aesthetics of Gazdar are closely associated with these epithets: Legacy, Luxury, Rare, Timeless, Magnificent

2. Who would you love to see wear one of those Gazdar’s finest pieces who hasn’t already?

Gazdar is globally renowned for it masterpieces. Successful and inspiring women like Oprah Winfrey and Meryl Streep are an epitome of true grace and elegance, values that Gazdar embodies. Since Oprah Winfrey has already visited Gazdar and has been bejewelled in our fine pieces, I would like to see Meryl Streep adorned in our jewels.

3. What is the thought process behind crafting those finest quality jewellery?

When designing and creating jewellery, the thought process at Gazdar is significantly different compared to other jewellery boutiques. We use our extraordinary gemstones as the starting point for creating jewels. The gemstones becomes the hero of the piece and the design is curated accordingly. Our endeavour has always been to source the finest natural gemstones from around the globe and craft jewels with utmost precision and mastery.

4. Any proudest creation (so far), and why?

One of my favourite creations is the Utopian Paradise ruby diamond suite. It combines some of the world’s finest and rarest natural Burma rubies. The Utopian Paradise symbolizes the magnificent beauty of nature. The openwork floral design is embellished with clusters of diamonds and rubies. Each piece of ruby has been meticulously hand picked, reshaped and recut to bring about absolute perfection.

5. Any upcoming collections we should look forward to?

We are unveiling a new collection “Constellation” that draws inspiration from the movements of the glittering stars and heavenly bodies, emphasising the beauty of geometric patterns and celestial compositions. Our master craftsmen have created jewels that capture the transforming patterns of stars in the galaxy.
