Wearing many hats, the 30-year old fashion blogger Shraddha Singh considers her biggest ‘It’ moment to be featured in Vogue India. With over 220k followers, Singh has made a name for herself since she stopped juggling between software engineer by the day and a blogger by night and jumped into the blogging fray full-time in July 2017.

Since the success of her blog, she has worked with influential brands like Ted Baker, Pepe Jeans, and Wolford., Singh is as much passionate about fashion as she was about her job as a coder, coding big applications in Java (she was a coder for almost seven long years!). When the time came for her to choose between the two, she went with her instinct and focused all her energies on blogging and creating a unique style in the world as defined by her, and the result is there for all to see!

Her Journey

We spoke to her about her career journey, and she recounted the toughest phase in her career so far.

“Juggling a 9–5 job as a software engineer along with creating content for my blog. I would work until midnight every night and also on the weekends. That is when I realized that I’ve got to choose one and I chose my bigger passion.”

Married to the fellow Instagrammer Prasanth Chandra, Singh gives him all the credit for her success. She says that her husband has always been a pillar of strength during her low phases and keeps her grounded.

She also says it was Chandra who was instrumental in setting up Shrads.com. He still takes care of the backend processes and is the director of Photography at Shrads. In fact, most of Singh’s photographs have been taken by her husband.

Living in Amsterdam for the past three years, Singh is still a desi at heart and considers her mom to be her role model. A gold medalist, Singh describes her mom to be a perfectionist in whatever she does.

“This woman sacrificed a lot for her kids and never let them bear any hurdles. She obviously taught us the right values and supported us when we needed her the most!” Her husband even jokes that he will be much happier if she turns out to be at least 10% like her.

Her Style

Singh is a creature of comfort. It’s her mood, which dictates her style for the day; one day, she will dress up head-to- toe and the other days, it’s plain baggie jumpers with skinny jeans that she frequently borrows from her husband. She likes to keep her style simple, yet classy.

Here are a couple of pics from her Instagram, which shows her style evolution.

Shrads

If there is one subject that instantly perks her up, it’s her pet project — Shrads. She considers Shrads to be her ‘creative outlet,’ which allows her the freedom to express herself, have an opinion about a matter without any restrictions, and talk about the subjects that are of importance for the contemporary women.

Singh says, “Shrads is also a place where I talk about gratitude, inspiration, love, and happiness. With the power of social media and a strong community, I would love to spread positivity and fight for the right causes.”

Besides modeling clothes for the brands or clicking her own styles, Shrads is also full of her travel experiences (Amsterdam, Canada, Denmark, Germany, Greece, Switzerland, Paris, Prague, Italy, and The Netherlands) and her experiments with various beauty products, complete with tips.

Her Style Gyan

Singh has some pearls of wisdom for the fellow novice and young bloggers. She agrees that in a saturated market, it’s difficult to make a mark. However, she is of the belief that you shouldn’t let it get to you and that if you are consistent in what you do and keep learning and work hard, there’s nothing stopping you.

The challenges that the bloggers face isn’t lost on her, either, but she has learned to rise above the odds and continue striving for perfection. She recalls the earlier days when fashion blogging as a concept was new, anything was acceptable. It’s not the case today.

“Today, however, to make the cut you gotta have the highest quality content and the right tools. This doesn’t mean that you need that most expensive camera. You just need to learn the skills and produce some unique quality content.”
