New Year’s Resolution

Get Back to the Basics

Gary Vee, I’m taking you up on your challenge today. It’s less than two days before 2014 is here and 2013 is a near distant memory.

For the past four weeks pundits of all stripes have been clogging up my social streams with “2014 Predictions,’’ “Resolutions,” and what not. I thought it’d be apropos to scribble down my 2014 prognostications pre-11:59pm on December 31st.

Like my predecessors, I’ll defer to a listacle (yes it’s a real word) of my new year’s resolutions and objectives for 2014.

  1. Be nice — it’s a visceral human emotion, habit, and behavior. Try it. Its rewarding. Heck, maybe tomorrow before the ball drops pay for the person who’s behind you in the coffee line.
  2. Expectations — Expect a lot from yourself but holding your peers, family, friends, and colleagues to the same high standards will result in one thing: disappointment.
  3. Be Vulnerable — Yes, show weakness and be human. We’re not built like Clark Kent. My role models are people who admit failure, defeat, not being good at Y, and so on. They’re relatable figures.
  4. Measure Twice, Cut Once — Be thorough in anything you do. Never rush to do something without thinking it through.
  5. Be More Passionate Then Ever — You can’t recreate the past or control the future. What we have now is the present. Make the most of it!

To a happy and healthy 2014!
