WOW Wednesdays featuring Lema Abeng Nsah
WOW (Women of Wonders) Wednesdays -highlighting kickass women who are making the world a better place.

I initially met Lema in December of 2014 after connecting to her magazine’s Facebook page. Dunia Magazine held everything I was interested in: culture, art, technology, women’s issues, etc with special attention to the Motherland. It was with great excitement that I received her first message inviting me to be a feature in her publication. I couldn’t believe it! Little ol' me? After a few inbox exchanges we exchanged numbers and had an introductory chat by phone. We hit it off and gabbed it up for over an hour. Instant sisterhood. At some point, Lema said, “Fatou! Are you sure you aren’t my sister?”
The feature interview provided a platform for me to share a little of who I am and my motivation. It was published January 5, 2015 and made Dunia Magazine’s top 15 list for 2015. http://www.duniamagazine.com/2015/01/jacksonville-fl-resident-christa-fatoumata-sylla-talks-guinea-haiti-and-dance-as-an-expression-of-culture/
Below, Lema shares in her own words who she is and what motivates her to do all of the awesome and empowering work she does.
“I was born in the West African nation of Cameroon. I am from a village in the North West region known as Aghem-Wum. I attended school back home and graduated from the University of Buea with a degree in Biochemistry. I am a mother of 3 precious ones – a girl, 13 years old; and 2 boys, 10 and 8. Our family resides in Atlanta.
Growing up, I always had a passion for travel. I was blessed to go on my first international trip (out of Africa) at the age of 25, that was in 2000. The following year, I migrated to the United States. I have since traveled to several other countries. Everywhere I went, I noticed that people were curious about the people in other countries. I also noticed that stereotypes and preconceived notions have greatly blinded humanity from appreciating (and even seeing) the beauty in those who seem “different” from them. Traveling opened up my mind greatly and fuels the passion I have for the work we do at DUNIA Magazine whose vision is to connect across cultures.
Also passionate about leadership and self-growth, part of my life’s work involves inspiring those I come across to work hard, work smart and hold themselves to high standards. Everyone has a soft-spot, right? Something that moves one’s soul and fires them up to keep going no matter what. Mine is women’s issues. I enjoy working with and for women – uplifting, building, encouraging.
The world is now a global village, imagine how much knowledge is out there for us to tap into if we just opened up our hearts to receive. DUNIA Magazine brings such information and stories: www.duniamagazine.com
