This. All of this. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I strive to be more brave and secure in publishing my thoughts on the social constructs that cause so much inequality, but I find myself most fearful when it comes to anything even remotely geared towards sexism/feminism/criticism of the patriarchy we live in.
It’s hard when I see the backlash, the doxxing, the terrorism on and offline of women who challenge the system. I am actually pretty comfortable calling other white people out on casual racism or confronting homophobia, but sexism and misogyny? So hard. Even in conversation with a friend, possibly a friend I’ve known for most of my life, can be difficult if he’s a straight guy. I instantly go on the defensive, prepared for him to think that what I’m saying is a personal attack on him, rather than an observation of the culture we live in.
