The Beginning of The End
Every beginning has an end and in everyday life, the beginning is the first part or section of something or basically, the start of something and the End is the close, conclusion, finish of something. The privilege is that both the beginning and the end have “a purpose” however, the attainment of purpose is always a tough thorny road whether the purpose is positive or negative.
If so, what is a purpose?
The purpose is basically the reason behind the beginning of anything, the central motivating aims of our life, what we do with our life and the reason we wake up in the morning. Does this mean that “if we have no purpose we don’t deserve to sleep?” like the common saying, “if we don’t have a reason to wake up tomorrow then we shouldn't sleep” just because our sleep will be a waste of time.
Of course, Purpose can guide life decisions, influence behavior, shape goals, offer a sense of direction, create meaning and sometimes purpose is connected to doing meaningful, satisfying work.
The beauty of purpose is that it brings the inner satisfaction and joy that nothing else can provide. However, the most challenging bit is discovering our purpose.
we have had a positive purpose that started six weeks ago at the Andela Women-in-Tech leadership training with a theme “empowering ladies with technical, entrepreneurship and leadership skills to jump-start their journeys as world-class software developers.”
Experience and Expectation;
The training has been a life-transforming period for all of us with lots of packages like software development, leadership, self-employment, personal branding, effective communication, team building, and self-discovery.
A platform for tremendous turning around, awake up call that has unblocking our inner unrealized potentials as women.
The program has been a self-discovery moment that has encouraged, equipped, inspired us to take meaningful action and to make a positive difference in the world.
The mindset factory;
The program has transformed our fixed mindset to a growth mindset, from “it’s impossible for women to code” to “women are the best coders”, from “women can’t lead or do successful businesses” to “women are great and wonderful leaders and the greatest successful entrepreneurs in the whole world”, from “this kind of work only belongs to Men” to “Women are brilliant too and great performers.”
We are women of great value no matter how many times failure knocks on the door, what matters is getting up once and fulfilling the “purpose”.
Challenges are opportunities for us to learn and better ourselves and we must enjoy it because self-awareness is the greatest gift we have as mankind. Discovering our Sole Purpose;
Every single day ever since the program started has been a journey of discovery, learning and as its coming to an end, we should think about, who we are? why do we exist? Whom do we surround ourselves with?
Reflecting on this story of; The farmer, the chicken and the eagle here;
A chicken farmer found an eagle’s egg and he put it with his chickens and soon the egg hatched, the young eagle grew up with all the other chickens and whatever they did, the eagle did too.
He thought he was a chicken, just like them since the chickens could only fly for a short distance, the eagle also learned to fly a short distance because he thought that was what he was supposed to do and that was all he thought he could do. As a consequence, that was all he was able to do.
One day the eagle saw a bird flying high above him and he was very impressed. “Who is that?” he asked the hens around him, “That’s the eagle, the king of the birds,” the hens told him. “He belongs to the sky. We belong to the earth, we are just chickens.”
The eagle lived and died like a chicken, for that’s what he thought he was without soaring in the sky yet if he had tried to fly higher he could have discovered that he is not a chicken but an eagle.
Often times we are also like this eagle, we don’t know who we are just because of our thinking, culture, family background, friends, relatives, education system, surrounding environment etc. its time to be encouraged and know that we are eagles no matter what situations we have found ourselves in that have limited our potentials but its time now for the past to lose its hold on us so that we don’t die thinking that we are chicken but to soar high just as we are meant to be.
Great thanks to the entire Andelan team, it has been a very great moment for us to be part of you, we have been mentored, inspired, transformed and above it all, we have written code. it has been such a wonderful learning period but “the end of the beginning has come too soon.” it’s a remarkable turning point for us. All women who haven’t tried out the Women-Tech leadership program please do join this program so that you may discover yourself.
Thank you, Andela
Thank you, Women-in-tech team
Bravo to all Andelans.
