Andela Bootcamp — Home Day 2
Its Day two of the Andela Boot camp. Early morning as i peered into my monitor i was taken aback by the amount of work i had to do. Its like I was seeing it for the first time or someone dumped more workload on me yesternight while i was sleeping maybe, I wonder . It didn’t matter anyway, there was work to be done.
I opened up my slack app to see what people were up to, help wherever I could. Today’s work was tougher than yesterday. At least everyone agreed to that. Most people complained on the work which involved developing a simple application that consumes a public API using a HTTP client library. I made a decision to finish up the Andelabs first and deal with the more complex problem later. I was done by noon and decided to shift my focus to the command line app.
Now this was my first time i have ever built a command line application. what i did was, i thought about some interesting data. After all APIs are all about Data, at least most of them. So i thought, why not make an application where you can search the name of a movie and returns information about the particular movie.
So I searched for free movie database APIs online, ignored the ones that required to register an account and i stumbled upon Open Movie Database. This website had a really cool API. It was easy to learn and understand it. I designed the app and wrote some algorithms on some paper then went straight into coding the script. I finished the app, tested it, fixed some bugs here and there, refactored and i was done before 3 p.m
It wasn’t a fancy app, but to me it proved i could do stuff if i put my mind into it and dedication. I felt like i learned a lot today. Something interesting about this boot camp is the way its so intensive and fast paced. This makes you work hard because, you either keep up with the pace or get left behind and along the process you learn a lot of stuff, you know where you stand , how far you have come and how far you need to go to reach your full potential.
It’s a lot of pressure. Fawaz is under a lot of pressure, in the end, would that make diamonds?
