Power & the Sea

Livada Bay, Tinos, Greece

No roads to Rome

we islanders roam

where streets are met

with salty throes

where tyranny breaks

where humans take

a part of themselves

back.

Power comes,

power goes,

it changes hands,

it changes foes, but

where a person meets the sea —

where a soul is bare to be —

power doesn’t go;

power doesn’t know.
