How AirPods hacked the market

As we all know in December 2016 Apple released one of the most popular products called AirPods. Apple did a great job of designing its product and bringing a better quality product to the market compared to any other company. In this publication, I am going to explain why AirPods took over the market in a short time.

There were quite similar products in the market before Apple released AirPods but why AirPods did do so well in the market? I did my research about it and got some numbers.

Well, as I mentioned above Apple released the product in December 2016, the 13th of December to be clear. But the topic was trending in September, 4 months before the product release. People on the internet were discussing the product they have never used, never seen. But how Apple could make this product so popular that it was trending even before its release?

The short answer is Memes!

Yeah, you read it right. It was all about marketing strategy, here is how…

Apple decides to make a marketing strategy that can attract social media users to its “unknown” product. And it worked! People were discussing AirPods across social media most people did not even realize where it was coming from. But it was quite obvious because Apple keep other new products secret until the day of its presentation. So people would not have any idea what Apple is working on and what news the company will bring into the market if it was not a part of the game right?!

We all know that Apple is a genius when it comes to marketing, they planned everything well. Apple decided to release AirPods a couple of weeks before the holiday in December so people would buy this brand new product as a gift for the holiday. And it was not a coincidence!

Now, enough for marketing let we discuss the product itself!

One of the key features that Apple always focuses on is user experience. In the case of AirPods, it’s a sync of pairs, a seamless connection, and a long-life battery. Let’s dive into this deeper.

Now in 2022, It might feel just like normal two pairs of earbuds auto-sync each other. But in 2016 it was almost impossible to find earbuds that auto-sync each other, wireless earbuds pairs were connected through a wire to each other. So this seamless auto-sync gave users a good experience.

Another good user experience was you do not need to connect AirPods manually to your Apple device, when you open the case it just connect seamlessly. That was something new for the market at the time.

One of the issues that wireless earbuds users always complain about was the battery life of earbuds. Well, Apple solved it. One time charge listening time of AirPods was 5 hours, with more than 24 hours of listening time with the wireless charging case. That was quite a long time compared to any other earbuds at the time.
