You recently removed a feature allowing you to see who had viewed your profile. You stated you did this because “because we realized that doing so makes OkCupid better for everyone”. This is a complete lie.
Seeing who has viewed your profile actually HELPS you see who might be interested in you, and is not, as you put it in your blog post, a “distraction”. The removal of this feature does not mean that “your chances of higher quality connections improves”.
Moreover, you said that invisible browsing was just available to A-List members, which is also a lie. Non-members we able to check off a box and browse invisibly as well. If one did, then they could not see who viewed their page (which seemed like a fair trade-off).
This is not the first time you’ve taken away a feature like this. Previously, you could see who was new to OkCupid, but that feature is now gone too.
Plus, I highly doubt your “positive beta tests” really confirmed that people wanted less features.
You are making the site worse, not better. My guess is in a few months, maybe a year, being able to see who viewed your profile will be added as a feature to A-List members as a ploy to try to get more people to pay. The point of OkCupid was that it is a FREE site. Yes, you can pay more to get more features, but even non-members had ways to connect and try to meet people.
If you want, you could make the visitor tab and the viewing by newest first as options that people could opt to not use. Taking them away from everyone is simply unacceptable. Please return these features. Otherwise, I doubt many people will continue to use your service.
