Grandpa’s Grace…New Year’s Day, 1966

The last stanza of the poem “Love,” by Mary Baker Eddy, includes the following lines: “Fed by Thy love divine we live, For Love alone is Life.”

Those familiar with Christian Science will know that it was most popular during the early 20th century.

I don’t want to lose you so let me back up a bit. On that New Year’s Day our family gathered. at the home of my Grandma and Grandpa(Frank H.) Leslie to watch the Rose Bowl parade(they were the only ones with a colour TV)

A sumptuous dinner was prepared by Grandma and eaten following a blessing recited by Grandpa.

Those short yet profound lines(above) were dear to Grandpa. His devotion to. Christian Science and founder Mary Baker Eddy dated back to his childhood.

Medical science was in its infancy in the late 1800s. Mortality rates were high.

Many sought comfort in the ‘mind over matter’ teachings of Ms Eddy.

My Grandpa and that blessing stay with me always, as do my thoughts of Grandma.

May your life be filled with many blessings.
