Ian Mercer, Assistant Professor of Management at FDUSCB

Joining us this fall of 2022, Professor Ian Mercer is the newest member to join the Silberman College of Business [SCB] team. With an impressive curriculum vitae and even more exciting experiences, we are thrilled to see what Dr. Mercer has to offer for the Management and Entrepreneurship Department at SCB.

Earning his Ph.D. from Auburn University in 2022, Dr. Mercer has had experience practicing at the Bar of England and Wales in addition to the Bar of the Cayman Islands. Another honorable position Dr. Mercer held was as a Royal Navy Human Intelligence Officer for the United Kingdom. Currently, Dr. Mercer sparks a high interest in researching topics such as behavioral ethics, leadership, religion, and spirituality in the workplace alongside topics related to the use of gaming in management education and research.

The Bar of England and Wales is a strong and independent Bar existing to serve the UK public.

In correspondence with accepting a position within Silberman, Dr. Mercer serves as the Co-Chair of the Experiential Learning Activity track of the Eastern Academy of Management as well as the Co-founder of the Association of Gaming Academics. You may be familiar with much of Dr. Mercer’s work as it has appeared in several journals such as the Journal of Business Research, the International Journal of Intercultural Relations, and the Journal of Organizational Behavior. Similarly, his work on gaming and management has been the recipient of awards from the Academy of Management and the Southern Management Association. As a game developer and consultant for multiple leading US publishers, Dr. Mercer is an involved member of the game board industry in which he promotes gaming for the use of experiential learning in higher education. It will be fascinating to see how his work revolving around the gaming industry will translate to his efforts as a professor. During his time at Auburn, his focus was surrounding identity integration across multiple job holders and the impact on an individual’s well-being along with the ability to thrive.

This fall, Dr. Mercer is teaching the freshman Business Ethics course and will also teach Organizational Behavior in the spring. Welcome to FDU Professor Mercer! The Silberman team looks forward to your intriguing contributions to the college of business!
