A tragic Black Friday incident sets off a deranged psycho killer. One year later, the killer dons a pilgrim hat and John Carver mask to go on a violent killing spree in the town of Plymouth, Massachusetts.

It is during this rather un-scary November month that horror director Eli Roth presents us with the long-awaited holiday-themed slasher, THANKSGIVING. Based on a fake movie trailer from 2007, THANKSGIVING finally receives its feature film adaptation, right on time for Turkey Day.

Original Plymouth colony’s first governor, John Carver, is the primary inspiration for the killer’s mask. The fashion-related twist is that the John Carver Killer wears more than one mask; a regular version of the mask that the town of Plymouth seems to give out to everyone, and another mask has a weathered appearance of alloy bronze, with a drooping left half, making the killer look as though they are going through facial paralysis or that their face is scorched and melting.

Aside from the black pilgrim hat the John Carver Killer eschews traditional early-1600 pilgrim togs in favor of a form-fitting pair of black coveralls. Do the interchangeable black leather gloves indicate a Giallo shout-out?

Neca Toys is pushing the THANKSGIVING merch on their site, including a t-shirt and mask bundle, John Carver action figures, and plushies. One of the action figures comes with three different versions of the mask along with all of “the trimmings”; a musket, a sledgehammer, a broad axe, a dart gun, a meat tenderizer, a chef’s knife, and a dagger. https://store.necaonline.com/collections/thanksgiving-movie

It’s a fun flick, according to reviews, so there’s every indication it’s going to be a hit. The John Carver Killer mask and overall look may be the stuff horror franchises are made of, but only time will tell.
