In The Way Next: Borehamwood

Young buck, Overlook and a Welsh defender who is tall as fuck — there is nothing boring about The Wood
Dean Keates will pit his wits against the youngest manager in England’s top five divisions tomorrow (Bank Holiday Monday).
Luke Garrard took over from former Arsenal winger Ian Allinson two years ago aged just 30.

- Garrard feigns interest as Arsene Wenger recounts the time he performed the Heimlich Manouvere on his entire choking squad apart from Ramsey.
He also served the club with distinction as a player and was a fan’s favourite at AFC Wimbledon for four years.
His side opened the season with a 2-2 draw at new boys AFC Fylde before suffering a 1-2 home reversal to the Daggers.

They then won three in a row, banging in ten goals in the process. Solihull Moors were crushed 4-1 at Meadow Park before the Wood trounced Torquay 2-4 on their travels.

- Classic film ‘The Shining’ was one of many movies made at Elstree Studios, most of which were within the Borehamwood boundary. Here’s Jack Nicholson at the Overlook Hotel bar with a young Alex Hamilton…
Then Aldershot, leaders at the time, were turned over 2-1 to make it two home wins from three.
Garrard has been impressed by his team’s fitness levels, their fast starts and hailed the Aldershot win as the best performance under his stewardship.
“I don’t like to say it normally, but that is some of the best football that I have seen us play and I felt that we caused them a hell of a lot of problems”, he said.
The fine displays continued at Prenton Park on Saturday when he side coasted into a 0-2 lead. However, Tranmere snatched a point with two goals in the last eight minutes.
One to watch
I was going to state the bleedin’ obvious and pick Bruno Andrade. He has five goals in as many games.
However, Wrexham should be wary of veteran striker Paul Benson.
He scored the only goal of the game at the Racecourse in February to book Dagenham & Redbridge a play-off place. It was one of just five goals in 32 appearances for them.

In 2014 Benson was also on target against us, netting in a 5-0 humiliation at Luton Town.
Once again, it was just one of five goals he mustered, this time in 41 Hatters appearances.
He has come off the bench for the Wood in the last two games.
Welsh Connection

David Rhys Remington Stephens, 23, has represented Wales at U17, U19 and U21 level.
He racked up 130 appearances in three years for Barnet before moving to his latest part of London.
Prior to his time at the Bees the Welwyn Garden City-born player, who is just a smidge shorter than Dennis Lawrence at 1.93m, played 29 times for Hibernian following advice from former Wrexham boss Brian Flynn.

He was in charge of the Wales U21s when he observed Stephens struggle to break through at Norwich City.
"Brian Flynn told me that to progress to the seniors, you must be playing regular first-team football”, Stephens told Wales Online in 2010.
"Hopefully, if I do well here, it will boost my chances. I’m going to give it my all to be part of the first-team squad at Hibs.”
However, the towering centre-half failed to make an impact north of the border and had the final year of his three-year contract cancelled in order for him to join Barnet. At the Hive he twice won the Player of the Year accolade and helped them win promotion to League Two in the 2014/15 season.

- Stephens was inconsolable to be told he could not do a whoopsie on the imaginary on-pitch potty.
The Club captain has been in and out of the Wood starting XI so far due to injury. His presence tomorrow will ensure a fascinating battle with the equally robust Massanka.
