Andrew, well-argued and you are basically right, of course, although largely preaching to the converted. Your example, however, is too extreme and dangerously runs the risk of false equivalence. By just about any measure, Trump is the most extreme major party candidate this nation has ever produced. And for once with this man the superlatives fit the facts. By facts I mean facts: bigoted statements, sexist actions, outright lies, threats of violence, acts of selfishness, witlessly dangerous policy positions (help others get nukes) . . . Sure, when two choices are roughly the same, in a kind of equipoise, yet polarizing, it all boils down to feelings, some of them primordial. But Trump needs no such transformative treatment to understand: He’s all surface, show, bluster, and well-documented deed.
