Keeping up with the latest developments in the Apple ecosystem, you can now AB test apps in pre-order before they launch!

What are pre-order apps?

Developers on the App Store are now able to release their apps in pre-order via the App Store.

A pre-order product page features a limited version of your App Store page, with an expected release date:

Once your app leaves pre-order, users will be notified and it will be automatically downloaded within 24 hours.

Why should I AB test my product page while my app is in pre-order?

There are two reasons to release an AB in pre-order:

  • Build demand before launch
  • Validate messaging before release

Pre-release is the perfect time to AB test your store assets. For most apps, the initial period after release is a chance to get a firm footing in rankings for relevant keywords and capitalise on the initial buzz from press releases, performance marketing pushes and App Store featuring.

Needless to say, optimising your App Store assets at this stage is too late, you’ll be testing variations while your app’s traffic is peaking. If you’ve set yourself up by testing creative while the app is in pre-order, you can be sure that you’ll have high-converting assets when your app comes to launch.

How can I start testing my pre-order app?

Just visit asogiraffe.com, enter your pre-order app URL and subscribe. From there, you can build your variations in Google Optimize and drive traffic to them.

Users can now host multiple pages on ASO Giraffe.
