5 Reasons Why it’s Cheaper to Travel with Friends
Travel is the only thing you buy that makes you richer. — Unknown
The year of 2016 is almost over (good riddance), we’re just a couple of days away from 2017. A fresh start full of new experiences and intriguing adventures. And when do you get the most of those? When you travel of course!
Preparing and planning ahead is an essential element of getting good deals and value out of a trip, and that ain’t exactly news for anyone. So you might want to get a head start and begin planning right after the winter holidays end.
What’s that? You’re saying you can’t afford it? Are you sure? Yes? Hmm.
But have you considered that traveling with a group of friends isn’t only a lot more fun, but also considerably cheaper? If not, then this is a must read for you.
There are a lot of upsides to traveling with a group of people. You have someone to share memories and precious moments with. Someone that might show you a different side of the location you’re visiting. A person that will have your back, in case things get out of hand. Not to mention that you won’t have to ask the locals or other tourists, to take a picture of you. Yeah, that’s a bit awkward for me too.
All of that is fine and dandy, but let’s look at the financial upside of not traveling solo:
Not really the case if you plan to travel by plane, but in any other scenario it really saves you a ton of money.
The taxi ride from the airport hits your budget a lot less, if it’s split 4 ways. Same goes for every cab or Uber ride, from the club to the hotel.
In case you want a roadtrip through the country you’re flying to, renting a car turns out to be a lot cheaper. Also, more people in the car means that everyone has to spend less gas money individually.
There’s an upside to group traveling even when you fly. Sometimes you just can’t fit everything into the carry-on bag, but it’s not enough to get a bigger one and pay for check-in. What you should do is check in one big bag, where everyone can put their stuff and pay for it collectively.
This way you get to take everything you think you might need, without overpaying too much.
Going somewhere in a group, gives you the privilege of renting Apartments or even Vacation Houses. And you waste the same amount (or even less) that you’d pay for a bed in a hostel or hotel.
With the emergence of websites such as Airbnb, the procedure of finding a place that will suit your needs and budget, became as-easy-as pie. Who’d want to stay in a hotel, when you can get the privacy of a house?
Another way to save money by traveling with pals and renting houses — food! While tasting the local cuisine is a highlight of any trip, eating out all the time is pretty costly.
Instead, all of you can pitch in and buy groceries to cook breakfast. You’ll still get to taste some local ingredients, it’ll only take a couple of minutes and save you some money for souvenirs!
P.S. And if you’re a good cook, you’ll get to show off your culinary skills in front of your friends!
Seeing famous touristic spots in the cities that you visit, is somewhat of a must when you travel. While it is entertaining and educational, it can also cost a lot. The benefit of being a group is that there are always deals. Buy 5, get one free — split the cost between you. 30% discount for groups of five or more people. There are always good deals for people that buys tickets in bulk.
All in all, when it comes to traveling with your friends, it’s not even about money. It’s about sharing special moments, bonding and experiencing life together.
