What is SEO?

In my opinion, Search Engine Optimization is an effort to optimize articles, blogs and products so that they are easy to find on search engines such as Google, Yandex, etc.

This optimization focuses on the user by providing solutions to the problems the user has. So what is the ultimate goal? Of course, it gives a sense of satisfaction to users, not search engines.

What is Not SEO?

Meanwhile, what is not classified as SEO is manipulative optimization that is used solely to get rankings on Google, and not to satisfy users. Examples include keyword stuffing and blindly linking to high domain rating articles.

So, let’s see some more common misconceptions about SEO:

1. SEO is About Google

This is a common misconception. SEO is not limited to Google because there are various search engines, including Bing, Yahoo, and Yandex.

SEO can improve the visibility of your website across these search engines. Additionally, e-commerce platforms and social media can also benefit from search engine optimization.

You can see 2 e-commerce in this SERP.

2. Word Count Matters

Word count is not the main factor and you can even ignore it. Content quality, keyword relevance to search intent, and keyword difficulty are the primary SEO factors.

However, longer content tends to perform better in terms of SEO because it offers more comprehensive information for both users and search engines. But again, you have to assess the search intent first.

3. SEO is Keyword Repetition

Keyword stuffing is a big no. Because excessive inclusion of certain keywords or phrases in content will result in punishment. Please never write like this:

What is SEO?

SEO is the practice of optimizing websites for SEO, enhancing web pages to boost SEO rankings. SEO involves many SEO tactics to improve SEO rankings and attract more SEO traffic from users looking for SEO information.

Now, content can rank high for thousands of keywords that weren’t even targeted before.

So, focus on quality rather than keywords.

4. Algorithm is King

Algorithms are like instructions, not the ultimate goal. They’re made to make users happy. As long as your content is good, you’ll be fine even if there’s a big update.

For instance, let’s consider the Google content update in September 2023. This update prioritizes content that is personalized, includes real life experiences, and is designed for human readers.

5. Create Lots of Content

Well it’s better to update old content to keep it relevant and maintain high rankings on SERPs.

Search engines can become confused if you have multiple articles covering the same topic, such as “SEO Complete Guide” and “How to Rank on Google with SEO,” both targeting the search term “SEO guide.”

Instead, consider creating a single comprehensive article on your desired theme and update it regularly.

Include all relevant and valuable information in this one article. This approach aligns with the concept of “evergreen content”, which you should aim for.

6. Buy High DR Backlinks

Remember, backlinks are like relationships. Buying them provides quick but short lived results. It’s always better to build high quality backlinks.

Now, you just need to focus on building relationships with relevant industries. Explain why you deserve a backlink and highlight the benefits for them.

7. SEO is Instant

No! SEO takes time. No one can guarantee that your content will be in first position on the SERP.

Quality content is crucial, but other factors like website speed, relevance to search intent, keyword difficulty, backlinks, web architecture, and security also matter.
