No, the way to not get any shit done is to be constantly interrupted by real-time communication whether that is chat, e-mail (semi-realtime) or by phone, of which the phone is the most intrusive method.
The problem in modern office work is not the tool. I agree that a phone call is the richest and quickest way to align something (other than face-to-face). The problem is over-collaboration, extreme multi-tasking, poor prioritization, the likes.
