Uber drivers have a tough time making a living; they’re responsible for their own cars, fuel, benefits, maintenance, tolls, and certain insurance as well as the kickback to Uber that takes a substantial slice out of every fare they pick up
Getting Over Uber

This isn’t what I’ve heard from Uber drivers in Leeds, UK. Several I’ve spoken to are happy as they can work on their own terms, pick their hours and receive better pay than working for other taxi firms. My last ride was from a man who’d been a dental nurse for 5 years and packed it in for an easier job with comparable pay.
Granted I have also heard of drivers becoming territorial over patches and competing for jobs, and there have been security issues within the app but aside from that it seems to me to be a better and more efficient service for most involved. It’ll be interesting to see how the industry is effected in London, now that Uber’s officially legal in the UK.
