Teaching with love.
I’ve been thinking about how difficult it is to study another language in a different country. Today, on a call with a friend who is studying English as well, I noticed one more thing: some teachers just don’t help us as much as we need. Yes, we have a lot of questions. Yes, we could study on our own and spend our money on other stuff but we need them.
One day, at the end of class, my classmate asked a question but the teacher said the class was over. I have total appreciation for teachers, it is such an amazing area and I understand that it is not easy to answer questions every day, but teaching is a choice, right? Being a teacher requires love, patience, dedication and an open mind — especially when you teach people of different cultures. Knowing how to motivate and influence the class is a great challenge for any teacher.
It’s easier to graduate from college than to learn another language. Sometimes it’s pretty hard to explain something in your own language, can you imagine in another one? Learning a foreign language is a process that does not end. Nonetheless, good teachers learn from their students — yes, teachers can learn from their students, particularly students from other cultures. Learning from each other is necessary to grow as a human.
Behind a good student, there is a good teacher.
I don’t doubt that being a teacher is among the most stressful professions in the world. If you are a teacher and you don’t feel motivated, drop this job and do something else that motivates you. Beyond motivation, to be a teacher you must love what you do.
