10 Reasons why Moms should be involved in growing your Facebook Community

I recently started a Startup for Free Pet Sitting and my Mom, being my #1 fan, was always there to comment. Some of her comments are amusing, some are confusing, and yet others are weirdly insightful. So I decided to create a list of the 10 reasons why Moms should always be part of growing your FB community.

  1. Your Mom should be involved in growing your community because she always comments, even if no one else will.

Yes, Mom, it’s familiar because that’s our house.

2. Your Mom should be involved in growing your community because she also strongly believes in your mission. In this post, I used a quote from Dr. Karen Becker ‘s book, which reads:

“Experts” say never change your animals diet. Never feed him people food… Most of us accepted this concept for many years… The truth is, food is just food. There is no “dog food,” “people food,” “cat food,” — its all just food, with the balance and ingredients different depending on the species. A fresh food diet is best for all living beings.

Here is what my Mom posted:

My Mom’s dog, Bogart, and her share meals together and sometimes he steals her food.

3. Your Mom should be involved in growing your Facebook community because she reminds you publicly of how much she loves you ❤

My Mom is Filipino and as most Filipinos are, she is very religious. I think she’s even the President of some Christian group and like most Christian groups they are very homophobic. So when I came out…it was hard for her to accept. When my partner and I got married last year, in all our wedding photos, she had this worried look on her face. It was as if she was thinking that we were going to burn in hell or something. I think these are inner struggles she has being Christian, but the fact that she respects me and my partner, as well as loves us back is what is important to me.

In this post, she comments “I thought it was Sana,” who is my partner and the caption that I had for it was “Love this…” — my Mom’s first thought when I say the word, “love” is my life-partner. She may never publicly admit that she’s ok with our relationship, but the fact that she connects my love with Sana, another woman, is so special to me. (Or maybe she just thinks all Caucasian women look alike.)

4. Your Mom should be involved in growing your Facebook Community because she reminds you to be mindful of a Target Market Group. The serious group that likes to take things literally.

Love you Mom and yes, it is legend that the Virgin Mary loves cats!

5. Your Mom should be involved in growing your Facebook Community because she has insights like no other.

You might be right that George aka “yellow cat” was jealous Mom.

5. Your Mom should be involved in growing your Facebook Community because sometimes she writes in code and you have to decipher what she means. I think it helps me to become a better problem solver.

I think she means that her Mom, my Grandmother… hmm. I think she means I’m the only granddaughter who loves animals? Now which daughter gave her one to take care of? Does she mean Bogart? But Bogart is a dog.

Ok, maybe not such a great problem solver, but a comment like this will prompt me to call her and ask her what she means so having my Mom involved in my Facebook page makes her more involved in my daily life. Which I love and is, in itself, a blessing.

And in case you want to solve the mystery, here is the poem she commented on:

6. Your Mom should be involved in growing your Facebook Community because she gets excited when she sees you and her excitement is palpable and in turn makes you feel excited too! (note the increase in number of exclamation marks.)

7. Your Mom should be involved in growing your Facebook Community because she enthusiastically invites all her friends to join. She also sends you a message and asks you how to put your Facebook page in her favorites so she doesn’t have to keep looking for it.

Translation: “Even Dogma? I want to add it to my page permanently so I don’t have to look for it. I hope it will be automatic. Ok thanks my child, love you both, I invited all my friends to like it”

8. Your Mom should be involved in growing your Facebook Community because she likes all your posts. This is very important when no one else is liking anything you are posting.

Translation: “Yes, I read her notes, I wrote a comment. I always like everything in Dogma”

9. Your Mom should be involved in growing your Facebook Community because when she likes a post, it encourages others to like it too.

10. And last but not least, your Mom should be part of growing your Facebook Community because… well, she loves you and whatever it is that you are aspiring to do, she will cheer you on as your #1 fan. Happy Mother’s Day to the best, most loyal and super active Facebook Fan!
