This is the first comment that I’ve ever made to a Medium article — I’ve been a member for a year or two now and I have to tell you thank you so much for your honesty. So much of the articles I find online (especially on Medium) are full of optimism (10 steps to be more productive/be happier/get enlightenment!) but when I read articles like these, it gives me relief that I’m not the only one who goes through trials in this life. We all know that each one of us has had problems but rarely do we speak of it so frankly and “casually”. Surely it’ll be more helpful if society accepted troubles as a regular part of life instead of shaming in their existence and pushing them behind therapist doors/support groups/dumb memes?
Or when I read about “overcoming obstacles” stories, they’re usually HUGE LIFE CHANGING events: death/auto accident/divorce, etc. I love reading the little moments/memories that you write. It sucks that you got rejected by 10 girls, but I’m glad that you remember it. When I read something like that, it’s usually about a fictional character written by an author who just wants to flesh out the character’s history. No one mentions these things in real life — so it’s gladdening, and a relief, to see that these moments happen to people in real life as well. Thanks!
