How we created a tech company from a tiny island called Lanzarote. Let me introduce some of the characters first. Me (not being egocentric just getting this out of the way): I am a 43 years old entrepreneur that studied computer science and then a few other things just to avoid working on computing. If you do the calculations I ended university before the internet and all the excitement showed up. Chiara, is my partner, in business and life. She studied sociology in university and also never worked on that as she had a great modeling career around the globe ( IG @chiarabetancor ). one of the smartest persons I ever met. Gicu is a 25 year old genius coder from north east Europe that has hunger for overachieving and solving issues.

The Idea

Self awareness was key. Chiara and I had a short debate about what makes us happy in order to concentrate on that all time possible. We came to the conclusion that we both love to travel a lot. Most people do. When we say travel we mean the kind of travel that allows you to understand the place and the people living there. We also love to talk to locals and to ask them all sorts of questions. Chiara loves visual arts like photography and film, both in front and behind the camera. In my case I like challenges.

Conclusion: We should concentrate on doing something that would allow us to do all what we love as much as possible.

That is how we started to think about conauta

Since conauta took form we have seen a lot of magic happening. It is somehow scary when all this synchronicity happens as you want that to happen often. The first one was how we found Gicu. We were looking for engineers in order to start the project. Not an easy task if you want high end committed professionals. After about a week of asking acquaintances and emailing India, Madrid, London,.. nothing had moved forward. Then we met the worst waiter in the south of the island. This guy did not get anything right. I had to ask him how could that happen and he told me he did not speak spanish, he had just landed from eastern Europe as a friend told him the pay was higher and the work load a lot lower. Bad waiter but smart guy. I asked him about any coder he knew back home some kind of genius and after a while he decided to give my email address to a friend. We had a Skype meeting and instantly felt connected. Gicu and I are very like minded and had instant chemistry. I asked him how much would he charge us to work for us and he replied with not a hint of a doubt in his eyes, I want to be part of this, I mean as a partner. No need to pay.

What else can you expect when you start pushing an idea into a company? Gicu is conauta’s CTO.

Next: When you realize your idea is not as unique as you thought.
