When Facebook Bans Your Startup

Everybody knows, if you don’t have a marketing budget, you advertise on Facebook. It’s cheaper than Google Adwords; there’s better audience targeting, and I head…it’s efficacious. Good job Facebook.

But dating apps are not allowed to advertise on Facebook. Unless you’re preapproved.

How do you get approved?

This, apparently: “The Policy team will contact you directly with an answer within 30 days.”

Fact: I’ve been waiting for the Policy team to contact me since August 2015. Today is January 29, 2016. I’ll let you do the math.

I get it. There are a lot of dating apps. But would you ban this?

Or this?

Have you seen a dating app like this?

Have you seen a dating app like this? Don’t you think the world of dating deserves something like HeyU? Something a little more fun, a little more interesting. . .a little less about grading people or bro culture? Dating isn’t about holding hands and walking into the sunset. It’s about about learning, about searching. About going into the abyss and finding that “aha” moment. It’s not unlike being an astronaut going to mars, searching for water. Finding love or finding someone that you legitimately want to spend time with is like finding the secret to life.

We’re not your regular dating app. If you can’t tell already, we have a different sensibility. We’re made for artists, techies, and NPR enthusiasts — the inner nerd who wants to be loved for who you are.

HeyU let’s you tell your story and show off your personality in 15 second clips or less. We can’t guarantee that you’ll find the love of your life or even a hook-up that you like, but we can guarantee a more fun and positive dating experience, one that gives you the ability to harness your creative power and something that makes your life better, not worse. We’re building an app that brings out the best in people.

News alert! It’s not you, it’s those other dating apps.

This is what we are trying to get across — a message that we can’t make because we’re banned. Facebook, give us a fighting chance!

Love,

Jingjing Tian

Founder of HeyU

Sometimes I get flack for being too emotional, too passionate, too earnest, too much this or that for being the founder of a company. But this is what I stand for, what I believe in, and the vision that I’m trying to execute. I hope that you’ll join us on this adventure.

The Policy team will contact you directly with an answer within 30 days.
