One novel idea that files.fm has implemented is the creation of public profiles, where any user can make their profile public allowing anyone to download their files or for anyone to send files directly to the user. This creates their own public file catalog, allowing users to, for example, gather all their vacation photos from multiple people in one place. This is also useful for companies who frequently receive and send files to users, since it allows organizing and tagging files. Any file can be password-protected, allowing users to restrict access only to a select group of people. In addition to that we have recently been working on implementing hybrid-decentralized file sharing, where the file is simultaneously downloaded both from centralized servers and P2P network, thus ensuring high download and upload speed.
