It’s the Losers Who Are Obsessed with Success
Vladimir Oane

Business and science (the one that is done for a living) are not sustainable without external, social validation (aka success). Build something interesting, but without a clear use and without any traction you will have to shut down.

Hence, progress and success are not two independent variables in these systems — they are correlated and enforce each other in a feedback loop. The more validation you have, the more you can progress. The more progress you do, the more success you have.

You can afford to have progress without success in two cases: you are either an autocratic, supreme leader (as in Seneferu’s case), or a lonely wolf. As soon as multiple, equally powerful, personal interests are involved, the system converges to equilibrium — then, success is the only currency you can trade for progress.
