I watched Joker, here are my thoughts

One of the rising phenomenon’s in the film industry over the last decade have been superhero movies. Marvel has been the king of cinematic superhero movies with the MCU. DC also had there go at a cinematic universe, with much less success. There have also been superhero movies outside the MCU and DCEU, such as the Dark Knight trilogy and Sam Raimi’s Spider-man trilogy. The most recent “superhero” movie being the DC origin story: Joker.

This movie has sparked a lot of controversy. Mainly due to the dark themes and gruesome plot within. The whole movie is set before Batman’s arch enemy “Joker” actually becomes the Joker. He is a man with a physiological disorder that makes him laugh hysterically when he actually wants to cry (which is a lot because his life is miserable). The whole movie explores his path to becoming the infamous villain he is known to be.

Now, before I get into my thoughts on this movie I’m going to say; I like to watch movies to be entertained. This is not one of those movies. This is a movie made to make you think and debate what is actually going on in that society. Everything that Arthur Fleck (Joker) does throughout most of the movie is exactly what you don’t want him to do, it’s the exact opposite of rooting for the hero.

As a huge fan of movies made to entertain, I did not particularly enjoy this one. The movie itself was very good, the acting was brilliant, the script was dark, and the story was original. I would still say The Dark Knight’s Joker was a desirable version of the character. He seemed a lot more in control of what he was doing which gave a very good villain persona. But that’s just my opinion.

All in all, if you want to watch a movie that will get you thinking and twist your stomach, Joker is a pretty good watch. If you’re like me and watch movies more so to be entertained and have a good time, maybe pass on this one.
