How to Create a Business With Heart
This is a bit of a different post. It’s about building a business; most specifically a business with heart.
Creating a business with heart means that you not only create a thriving enterprise but one with a sensitivity towards developing meaningful relationships with causes and giving back.
Now, I know what you might be thinking, ” Well, giving back is fine for big corporations that make money but my little enterprise is hardly making enough to even float me, how am I going to contribute to a cause?”
Having a business with heart isn’t always about contributing financially to a cause. It’s about doing what you can as a business owner to support the cause.
So, let me tell you about the cause that is near to my heart; human trafficking. It’s mind boggling to know humans from a very young age to the elderly are still being bought and sold for a variety of reasons and it happens in every country and across all socio-economic ranks.
One of the organizations that move my heart is EXODUS ROAD. Founded by an American couple, Exodus Road offers targeted intervention and rescues in various places in the world by providing funds, covert gear, technology, strategic resources and staff to mobilize people to fight trafficking in their own communities. This organization collaborates with local law enforcement to support rescues.
Sure, Exodus Road appreciates financial contributions but they also encourage and welcome support through people who volunteer for search and rescue teams, become abolitionist bloggers ( I am one!), become traffick watch agents, fundraise or even shop ( YES, SHOP!) to support the cause.
Adam LaRoche, a former professional baseball player is involved in Exodus Road and made a trip overseas as part of a rescue mission with Blaine Boyer, another player. Recently in a story in the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Boyer commented, ” It was a life changer and something Adam and I are going to do for the rest of our lives.”
I am impressed at how EXODUS ROAD has something for EVERYONE who wants to help the cause.
But maybe this is not the cause that pulls at your heartstrings. What’s important is that as a business owner you need to identify what does and then create a heart for it within your business.
Whatever you can offer from money,to getting the word out, education, volunteering, enhancing the network will make a difference. You need not be a conglomerate to play a role. You just need to roll up your sleeves and do something.
Whatever Matters to YOU, should Matter to Your BUSINESS, that’s how you create a business with heart.
I want my clients to build strong and thriving businesses and I want them all to create a business with heart.
It’s a bigger deal than you think because when your business has heart it reaches the soul of others.
So, have you created a business with heart? If so, drop me a line and tell me what matters to you and what you support. If you haven’t, I encourage you to take a look at EXODUS ROAD’S RESCUES and challenge you to make it the heart of your business too.
