Excellent piece. When I’ve worked on dropping bad habits and destructive thought patterns, it’s been tricky to navigate the balance between not being in denial but at the same time not beating myself up. One technique I’ve learned recently to break negative patterns is to observe your habits from the perspective of a neutral observer. This keeps me honest without taking things too personally, which also allows me to detach from this pattern and see that it doesn’t have to be a part of me forever. I like how you put it about every day being a chance to start over. A clean slate, so to speak.
