Green Buildings all set to Enter Indian Cities — Finlace Blog (Real Estate Consultant)

International Finance Corporation (IFC) and Green Business Certification Inc (GBCI) have joined hands to give life to environment-friendly infrastructure building in India. To make it a reality, the premier world-level organizations have established a partnership with The Confederation of Real Estate Developers` Association of India (CREDAI). All of this will mark the launching of EDGE Green Building Certification system in the country.

Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies (EDGE) is software that is offered free by IFC so as to get practical solutions with water and energy savings leading to efficiency with operations and lowering of costs. In order to get a certification, any building must target at least 20% decrease in its usage of construction resources, water and energy when compared to any standard building. It is quite noteworthy that IFC’s initiative of green building program for India is getting support by the European Union.

Mr. Mahesh Ramanujam, the president of Green Business Certification Inc quoted that EDGE will give a boost to country’s eco-friendly real estate market. The green buildings will form a different set of product range for the developers which they will be able to market with a guided approach.

India presently is known to have world’s third largest carbon footprint which can only be tackled with the help of green/sustainable constructions. There is a rising demand for energy, water and infrastructure within the country which will have as much as 600 million people in its city regions within next 15 years. For now the plan is being projected for cities such as Delhi, Bengaluru and Mumbai.
