A few years ago a priest told me that the translation of the Lord’s prayer from italian to my dialect starts with “Oh tata…” I laughed because “tata” translates to “daddy” and it sounds almost disrespectful to call the Lord “daddy”.

He told me that the reason why this is the right translation is because when we’re praying we should feel as if we were talking to one of our parents: tell God about our fears, our hopes, and be thankful. So we shouldn’t be afraid to call God our “dad”.

What you wrote is 100% right, it’s not a contest on who prays more or a situation where God grants wishes to the people that pray to him. It’s supposed to be an intimate moment between you and God, where you can feel grateful for what you have and reflect on your life.

Thanks for this article, by the way I had never thought about combining meditation with prayer.
