Netiquette- a combination of ‘net’ and ‘etiquette’, is a set of rules for acceptable online behavior.

Why does it matter?
Do people really care about online ethics? Yes! Understanding how to interact online in a world where kids are using iPads before they can speak to Educators communicating online is critical! It helps develop a positive online relationships and reputation.

The Internet can be an informal environment, but here are some ways you can apply netiquette to your e-mails, messages and online posts:

· Keep it short, polite and to the point! When your sending an e-mail, do not make someone read through paragraphs when they have tons of emails to respond to already

· Subject line of an e-mail should indicate what the e-mail is about

· Be aware of the tone of your message — The person on the other end can’t see your expressions or hear your tone of voice. So don’t SHOUT in all caps or use all lower caps in an application- adjust your tone to the situation

· Grammar, grammar, grammar! Always check for typos and spelling mistakes, this reflects poorly on your writing skills

· Stay away from cyber bullying! Everyone likes to comment on YouTube videos, blogs, and posts stating their opinion and comments. You can either join in on rude comments and attacks or ignore it. If it’s directed towards you, block them and don’t respond.

Remember everything on the net is public! Be mindful of netiquette when communicating online. Would your mother or grandmother approve of what you’ve posted online? If not, then maybe it shouldn’t be posted for the general public.
