Why a hackle-less Trump could be the beginning of U.S. multiple parties
First and foremost, let me be clear about my background. I am an Indonesian born, Canadian citizen, twenty-four year old, unemployed recent graduate living comfortably in my hometown in Ontario. The only political background I have comes from reading the news article on paper and online, watching fake and real news shows, and the occasional discussion with my mother, who is a retired corporate lawyer. In the four election seasons that I have participated in, I have not supported for the same party twice.
There’s a reason why I have not voted for nor supported for the same party twice. World wide, there is twenty something countries that recognised multiple political parties such as Brazil, Italy, India, and Indonesia. Indonesia alone have, literally, 100+ political parties that campaigns for the president seat when the election season comes near. Believe it or not, this multi-party system works! In Canada, the surge New Democrat Party (NDP), thanks to the great Jack Layton, have brought new hope to the political scenery. More importantly it gained the attention of the millennials, and this is what I believe is missing in the U.S. political system.
The now hackle-less Trump is a great example why he should have run his own party outside the Republican agenda, and this also applies to Bernie Sanders who should have (and could have) run his own campaign. But don’t get me wrong. I understand that if Sanders run his own party, then the democrats will lose votes and give the republicans a better chance to re-gain the white house. However, I feel that the american people have wasted the last six months paying attention to a sun burnt, orange, beach volleyball ranting its mouth about deporting Louis C.K. rather than listening to the Libertarian, Gary Johnson, and the Green, Jill Stein. There needs to be more candidacy being interviewed on TV. There needs to be more colours flying their flags on the streets, and planted on the american people front lawn. There needs to be more diverse ideas to solve the issues that U.S. is facing.
This is a wake up call to the american voters that maybe, just maybe, the house representative would better represent its american people if it has more colours than just red, and blue. I supported Sudhoyono, and Djokowi for the Indonesian presidency to eliminate corruptions, I supported Trudeau because Canada needed to invest in it self, and I supported Obama, and Sanders because Bush f*cked up and it’s time to reduce the cost of education in the U.S.
The hackle-less trump is now “free” to do and say whatever direction he wants to go to. But imagine, if there was four parties having a convention and being televised nationally, and if there was four people up on that debate stage articulating their ideas on the U.S. economy, security, and prosperity. For a country that often defend its free speech system, their house of representative is always kept red and blue, and their news channels keep quiet on what is new.
