Pierre Auguste Renoir was a French artist who was active in between 19th and 20th century. He was prolific and also featured among the leading painters of impressionism. Most of his earliest artwork displays impressionist qualities with vibrant colors as well as loose brushwork. Later on, he used classical art to draw his inspiration. He is renowned for his accurate depictions of domestic scenes, the evolving Parisian society, women, dance and nude paintings. Here are some of the most famous paintings of Pierre Auguste Renoir.

1. Two Sisters
It was done in 1881 and features two sisters sitting on a terrace. Currently, the painting can be found in Maison Fournaise, a restaurant located in one of the islands found in Seine. Jeanne Darlot, an actress, is the eldest sister featured in the painting while the identity of the younger sister remains unknown.

2. The Umbrellas
It was created in 1886 and features people in Paris using umbrellas to protect themselves against the rain. The painting is famous because it features both phases of Renoir’s painting phases. He started painting in 1881 and finished it in 1886.

3. La Parisienne
Henriette Henriot, the model behind the artwork, was an actress in Odeon theatre. When it was first exhibited, most critics described it as a failure but it has become one of Renoir’s most famous paintings. Currently, it’s actually one of the most prized artworks in Wales.

4. Girls At The Piano
Done in 1892, the artwork shows an engaging and intimate scene in a regular household that depicts two girls sitting at a piano with one playing and the other reading the music with the first one.

5. Madame Georges Charpentier And Her Children
It was completed in 1878 and commissioned by Georges Charpentier who was a wealthy publisher and his wife. It was one of the breakthrough paintings for Renoir that brought the critical admiration and attention. Here, the wife sits next to her 3 year old son who is dressed as the sister who is perched on the family dog.

6. Dance At Bougival
Completed in 1883, the painting shows two friends of Renoir who are waltzing as they are locked in a passionate embrace. It’s one of the earliest revisions of classical art by the artist.

7. La Loge
Completed in 1874, the painting shows a classy couple seated in the best seats of a theatre. Renoir used the loge to capture the transforming nature of the classy Parisian society with a little mystery to it.

8. Les Grandes Baigneuses
Here, the painting shows nude women taking a bath. The models for the painting were his wife and another painter. It actually become one of the most revered nudes by the artist.

9. Luncheon Of The Boating Party
Completed between 1880 and 1881, the painting shows Renoir’s friends relaxing in a Balcony near the Seine river, enjoying their afternoon. The models were his wife and another impressionist painter.

10. Dance At Le Moulin De La Galette
It was completed in 1876 and shows people enjoying their Sunday afternoon at one of his favorite open air dancehall and café.
