Very interesting. Do you have a lot of water in your chart? Maybe in the fourth house? That could be why an astrologer may say that.
The astro-cartography thing is fascinating. I have never lived in a city outside my birthplace, but can say that traveling to places that significantly change my chart angles (that is the thing that changes with astro-locality, the houses) was markedly different in what planets came out or were expressed.
When I visit Colorado (which I have on many occasions and love it, my chart changes to Leo rising (instead of virgo) and it puts my Venus in Leo in the first house instead of the 12th (an upgrade for her). And I have a much more Leonine expression there, its a lot about fun and partying, and when I went there for an astrology conference once I got asked by many astrology peers if I was a Leo. — which made me as a cancer/virgo rising actually check myself and think wtf am I going overboard here? :)
I can totally relate about being grounded and not wanting to move or deal with that kind of disruption (i am a cancer sun, so attached to the familiar).
