Neubility, a last Mile robot delivery platform, has launched a commercialized autonomous driving delivery robot model ‘NEUBIE-01’. NEUBIE-01 is scheduled to introduce an autonomous short-distance delivery service in downtown areas of Gangnam, Seoul in the fourth quarter of this year. This is the first commercialized service that offers autonomous delivery in urban areas.

In September 2021, Neubility’s robot delivery service was designated as a test case for demonstration of regulatory sandboxes, the delivery service began in earnest in downtown Seoul. With their first delivery mission starting in Yeonsu-gu, Incheon in October 2021.

Neubility’s delivery robot NEUBIE-01 is equipped with tools and functions for various variables during autonomous delivery service in urban areas. It operates in a way that recognizes and predicts real-time road conditions through a combination of more than 10 high-performance and high-precision cameras with various technologies such as radar and ultrasonic sensors. In particular, as the test city has a high population density, the focus is on the application of artificial intelligence technology to detect and avoid pedestrians and animals encountered while driving.

The cute and friendly exterior design of NEUBIE-01 is a key feature. An eye-shaped circular LED display is applied to the front to communicate with customers who send and receive goods and with people they meet on the street. Various emotions can be expressed depending on the situation. Neubility decided that delivery robots would soon become a part of our daily lives, so we designed them to be approachable to people as well as have reliable performance.

An added safety feature includes a belt-type LED light that separates the driving mechanism (wheel and power part) from the loading part. The robot is displayed in various colours, making it easy to identify the robot in the dark. For user convenience, auxiliary lighting is installed on the handle of the loading box to load the delivered product, so it has the advantage of being able to easily receive the products even in a dark environment.

Lee Sang-min, CEO of Neubility, said, “The newly launched NEUBIE-01 will not only show autonomous driving performance in the city but also become acute and smart robot that brings joy to everyday life in terms of the user experience of the last mile delivery service.”

Meanwhile, NEUBIE-01 is expected to be used in convenience store products and chicken delivery services when working with 7-Eleven and Nene Chicken, which have recently signed business agreements.
