It’s time for nonprofit media organizations

The thing about switching the model to nonprofits is that it doesn’t remove the burden of operating a solid business. I’m not sure the funding model is destroying traditional journalism so much as mismanagement and poor business fundamentals. Readers are willing to pay for the content they care about — Patreon is a great example of this — and good writers have amassed an audience that allows them to self-finance and make a living. It’s actually far better than a CPM-driven model. I think we are slowly transitioning back to a world where subscription content will rule the day.
