I somewhat can relate to your story. I once loaned $10K to someone, someone I knew. And then for a few months, we’d talk on the phone several times a week. Where he told me lies on a regular basis. How it’s coming. It’s been wired. Money got stuck somewhere. Cancelled. Undo. Redo. Then all good, wired again, but it’s the damnedest bank holiday in Switzerland, so need to wait one more day. Then wrong routing number. Then it was holiday season in Israel. And so on.
One day I realized this phone routine was just ruining my morning and I halted all contact. Never heard from him again. Nor saw the money. It’s been 5 years.
