RALEIGH, NORTH CAROLINA — The shoe manufacturing company Vans will be releasing a brand-new shoe design created by graphic artist Kevin Lyons. The shoe design will be part of a partnership between Vans and the truth anti-smoking campaign.
The limited-edition shoe, which will become available in Vans and Journeys stores across the nation on Jan. 20 for $60, was inspired by a mural created by Lyons in Raleigh, where youth smoking is highly prevalent.
“I wanted to create something that truly mattered,” said Lyons about the mural he created. “I’m so glad that people are taking notice of this issue.”

Text within the artwork on the mural and the shoe ties into the “Finish It” truth campaign. Kent Clarkson, a representative for truth, stated, “Being able to partner with Kevin Lyons and Vans is a terrific opportunity for us to be able to spread our message even farther.”
The truth campaign is a part of Truth Initiative, a national public health organization. The non-profit is dedicated to creating a culture where all youth and young adults reject tobacco.
The three parties partnered to release a promotional video related to the campaign.
Vans is hopeful that the limited-edition shoe will be influential in promoting this new culture. Said Vans representative Alan Berry, “We are thrilled that we get to be a part of this campaign, and this new shoe is going to be a huge step in the right direction.”
