All of this talk about Belichek and the Pats shutting down the Falcons is starting to border on hyperbole. In the last 11 years the Patriots have lost in the Playoffs and gone home empty handed every year except one, and they’ve given up about 27 ppg across the 9 losses to offenses far inferior to the one they’ll be facing on Sunday. And as Barnwell pointed out on ESPN, the Pats have played First Team All Pro receivers 14 times over that span, and on average they have performed….just like a First Team All Pro receiver. Belichek is attmitedly the greatest coach ever based on a long time frame of sustained success, but acting like he somehow figures out a way to stop great receivers or great offenses is a pretty tired story line at this point — and also pretty untrue.
