While I agree with the premise of your piece, I winced at this statement and must disagree. Imho, as simple example, if this comment were true, there wouldn’t be a shit-load of Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump supporters.
What it appears to me you are commenting on is an inability to think critically and reasonably argue the intricate details associated with a given subject. Now, don’t get me wrong, I get it. After all, this is the world we have created, or at least certainly has become within ‘Murica.
While I would be willing to consider there to be a variety of reasoning's as to why this is the case, what I see as two primary causes are 1) the influx of social media and its general lack of ability to fully express a necessary detailed response to a given subject and is, in fact, quite the opposite when it comes to the actual practice of “socializing,” and 2) the general failures of education over the past 45 years or so, which doesn’t even begin to take into consideration the basics involved with “education” and takes out of context the ways in which our society prevails on an attention driven, highly narcissistic, individual and social mindset that thrives and profit through shock value.
This lacking ability toward reason and critical thought goes much deeper than your “I don’t like X, so therefore X is garbage” argument. Take for example the small window where Marco Rubio — not that I’m a supporter of — decided to play Donald Trump’s poo-flinging game, only to eventually call it out for what it was, has been a wonderful example of the ways in which the media and Trump supporters, if not the entire RNC when considering their willingness to still vote for Drumpf even if he takes their candidacy (overwhelmingly representative of “adults”) could care less about reason and critical thought. Or, the ways in which Lena Dunham has gone about spouting her praises for Hillary Clinton, only to prove she is either completely ignorant if not intentionally disingenuous of Hillary’s political career in giving right-leaning hand jobs to any Tom, Dick, and Harry wishing to get their rocks off for the right price, all the while considering herself the millennial voice of feminism. Now that’s garbage!
Of course, all of this I see as nothing more than a posteriori of noeliberalism, which is all about ‘we do what we want, bitches!’, or, in your words, being a dick.

Apologies if my critique sounded like I was being a dick to you. This wasn’t my intention, but only to expand upon the nuance of your argument. I very much enjoyed the overall sentiment of your piece.
