Scrying is a divination technique that involves gazing into a crystal or element. Today we are going to use scrying to develop a writing prompt.

Try using a soft gaze to look at a flame. You can light a candle, gaze into the flames of bonfire or watch thesmoke wafting from an incense. Write about any visions you have or what you experience while gazing

You can use other senses. Listen to the sound of the fire cracking and sizzling. Write about the sounds you experience. Is there a rhythm to the sounds? Give the sounds you hear a voice. What is the flame saying to you?

You can scry into water and crystal as well.

If scrying isn’t your thing, try some meditation or listening to music and letting the vibrations carry you into a trance. When you feel ready, write.

No need to overthink or judge the words coming out of you. Simply let the words pour. Let them be. The goal here is simply to write. We are exercising our writing muscles and strengthening our commitment to our craft. What you are writing here is from you and for you. We practicing. It’s all good.

I will link my writing sample to this post along with whether I used scrying or trance.

Edit: I used scrying. The smoke took my back to a time when I worked in a juvenile detention center. https://medium.com/@fiyahangelou/smoke-scry-cry-aa5c55aeedf3
