Flare’s new AI feature enhances consumer clarity and streamlines lawyers’ workloads — introducing new legal practice standards.

Consumer law, especially family law, can be emotionally charged and complex. An attorney managing a client’s divorce, for example, must help navigate the hardest of life’s challenges like child custody and the division of property. But while attorneys want to provide personalized and responsive counsel to their clients, antiquated processes and outdated technologies can consume their time, diverting them from practicing law and being attentive to their clients.

We started Flare to deliver a consumer-friendly, modern, and consistent experience for both lawyers and their clients. Today, we are introducing AI-powered technology that keeps clients updated on their cases without overburdening their lawyers, so lawyers can focus on practicing law.

Providing regular case updates can be complex, lengthy, tedious, and take hours of an attorney’s time. Lawyers must consult hundreds of different case data points, draft documents, arrange for them to be filed and served, coordinate court dates and mediations, and navigate through uncontrollable territory — all while client emotions run high.

This kind of practice comes with two significant pain points for attorneys and clients:

  1. Lawyers spend long hours performing repetitive tasks with few systems to support their complex day-to-day workload. Through it all, attorneys must be mindful of taking the time to frequently update their clients, who are emotionally invested in each step and unable to discern meaningful developments from routine notices. This imbalance results in an inefficient use of the lawyer’s time and skills.
  2. Clients find the legal jargon in their updates unapproachable and confusing, leaving them feeling even more vulnerable. They often feel like lost spectators to events that will shape their lives and only receive comprehensible updates on the lawyer’s, mediator’s, or judge’s time.

These pain points are a large part of why the consumer legal industry has such low reported customer satisfaction year after year. Even tasks like obtaining a basic “status update” can cause friction; clients think preparing a comprehensive overview should be quick and straightforward, while attorneys may feel it prudent to consult the entire record before informing a client of what’s happened and what’s coming next. In an average matter, multiple fragmented data sources exist, including hundreds of lines of statutes, and dozens of exhibits, images, and documents. Although both sides are aligned on their goals to drive the case to its best possible outcome, the realities of practice may drive an antagonistic wedge between attorney and client.

Our newest software release at Flare bridges the communication gap between lawyers who are busy managing their caseloads and clients who are seeking clarity as to what is happening with their major life events. To accomplish this, Flare has successfully layered large language models throughout its entire platform, allowing its software to instantly provide a comprehensive, AI-powered case update at any moment in a client’s case. Given the typical family law case takes over a year to complete, this is a watershed moment for consumer legal.

Flare’s new software release translates hundreds of case details into human-like text updates, bridging the gap between lawyers managing their caseloads and clients seeking regular case updates.

Marble Law, a firm built on Flare’s platform, has already seen the LCC provide significant and immediate benefits to its clients and lawyers alike. LCC-generated case updates not only eliminate the time Marble spends manually communicating with clients, it also delivers clients information that is less prone to error and of higher quality. Clients receive concise case updates informing them of their latest case activity and next steps directly on their Marble app. Flare’s hope is that beyond simply keeping clients apprised of their case’s status, by providing on-demand updates, Flare’s software can reduce client anxiety by giving them the clarity they deserve.

The LCC also dramatically reduces the hours lawyers spend working on each case, giving them more time to focus on driving cases toward optimal outcomes.

Our AI-powered feature is a continuation of Flare’s mission to be the team that enables strength and clarity through key life events. By crafting a software platform that simplifies the delivery of complex professional services, Flare amplifies lawyers’ impact while delivering a better consumer experience.
